Productos de Espuma S.A. (PRODEX) is a 100% Costa Rican company that was created on September 16, 1995. Its founder, Dr. Lanzo Luconi, wanted to open a company to meet the needs of the thermal insulation market.
Being at the forefront in the productive processes has been the company’s ongoing goal; therefore, one year after its creation, the company purchased the first extruders to process plastics into different products. Then, in 1998, the company purchased rolling mills to adhere aluminum to the polyethylene foam, and finally it purchased the first stamping presses.
In 2002 and 2003, respectively, it acquired pelletizers to recycle; these machines are used to densify recycled plastics, and purchased a bench of transformers to provide energy to the production plant. From 2006 to 2009, the company revamped the rolling mill and extruder and introduced polyethylene foam bag equipment. In 2011, it integrated the SAP BUSINESS ONE software and acquired a polyethylene bubble producing device.
In 2006, the company acquired new facilities in BES free zone in Coyol, Alajuela, where it has an industrial plant that uses state-of-the-art technology as one of its main priorities.
Prodex has an ongoing innovation process evident in its latest product lines and in the corporate area. In 1999, it launched its first reflective insulators; in 2005 it ventured into the poultry sector with specialized thermal insulators; and in 2010, it introduced insulators with wood finishes and reflective insulating curtains for the livestock sector. One year later, it launched “Do it yourself” products customized to the American market, for example, insulators for garage doors, attics, and water heaters; and in 2012, the “Backer Rod,” which are expansion joints; Pronet, which are polyethylene foam nets to protect fruits and fragile products that include a safety ring, and “Safefoam,” which is a new pre-cut foam to pack fragile products requiring special handling.
In 2012, the company got in contact with world-class insulator manufacturers, exchanged information and experiences with them, and jointly promoted a growing technology in the world; it was elected to the Board of Directors of the Reflective Insulation Manufacturers Association (RIMA), a first-time appointment outside the United States. The company is working hard on key issues in the insulator industry, such as public relations, international agreements and strategic alliances, technical training, international standards, and cooperation with organizations, corporations, and government agencies with the purpose of educating about the benefits and uses of these products.
Part of our business growth is evident in the recognitions it has been given, such as the “Excellence Award in the categories of Leadership, Innovation, and Customer and Market Approach” (2012), the “Excellence Award in the categories of Leadership and Innovation,” the “Honorable Mention for Excellence,” awarded by the Costa Rican Chamber of Industry and Commerce (2009); the “International RIMA Award: “It´s about saving” (2009 and 2010, the United States);” the “Award for Excellence” by the Costa Rican Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Gold Category-2010 in the category of Business Leadership and Innovation-2011, in the categories of Business Leadership, Innovation, and Customer and Market Approach-2012). The products and their management are backed by certifications such as Energy Star, U.S. Green Building Council, Greener Product Certified, ES 2350, ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001:2004, BASC, and RIMA International.
Productos de Espuma S.A., is part of PRODEX corporation. Based on the strategic planning for 2013-2015, the approach to the strategic elements was modified at a CORPORATE level. The strategic elements were defined in accordance with CORPORACION PRODEX.
The future expectations of PRODEX are aimed at keeping a sustainable growth in the local market, and at a regional level the company is planning to continue operating both in Costa Rica and Panama. Moreover, there are expansion plans for South America (Peru – Brazil), the Caribbean (Trinidad & Tobago), and in North America (United States and Mexico) in 2016.
